Chapter 16
Yun Pianpian’s wrist was tightly gripped in Xiao Changyuan’s hand.
His grip grew stronger, tighter.
Yun Pianpian felt as though her bones were about to be crushed at any moment, the pain in her wrist unbearable.
“Couldn’t you have said it nicely? Why are you being so harsh with me?”
Yun Pianpian winced in pain, her delicate brows tightly furrowed, her almond eyes misty as she glared at Xiao Changyuan with dissatisfaction.
“It hurts so much, let go! You’re going to crush my bones.”
Only then did Xiao Changyuan seem to snap out of it, abruptly releasing Yun Pianpian’s wrist.
He frowned slightly, his cold and distant handsome face showing a trace of remorse.
“I’m sorry, wife.”
His voice was low and raspy, filled with deep self, reproach and regret.
Yun Pianpian’s wrist was finally free. Though her bones still ached, upon hearing Xiao Changyuan’s words, a mischievous urge to tease him suddenly arose in her heart.
Yun Pianpian deliberately raised her right hand and held it before Xiao Changyuan’s eyes, then let it drop limply as if it were boneless.
Her face wore an expression of terror, her eyes brimming with tears as she looked at him, as though the sky were about to fall.
“Husband, it seems you’ve crushed my hand!”
Quantity leads to quality, and quality leads to abnormality. Yun Pianpian had told so many lies that she had begun to indulge in twisted mischief.
In that instant, Xiao Changyuan’s already pale face drained of all color, turning as white as rice paper.
He stared at her helplessly, his dark pupils pure and his mind in disarray, like a lamb awaiting slaughter.
Compared to him, Yun Pianpian seemed as wicked as the Big Bad Wolf.
Seeing her wicked scheme succeed, Yun Pianpian struggled to suppress the corners of her lips from curling upward wildly. Covering her eyes, she feigned a heart, wrenching cry.
“You owe me my hand! Give me back my hand!”
Hearing her words, Xiao Changyuan’s face grew even paler.
How could he have let his wife get hurt?
It was truly unforgivable.
Xiao Changyuan’s blood surged, and a trace of resolute determination flashed in his cold, deep, dark eyes.
Pressing his thin lips together, he murmured softly.
“I’ll return my hand to you.”
With that, Xiao Changyuan walked expressionlessly to the cutting board, picked up the kitchen knife, and was about to bring it down on his wrist.
Yun Pianpian was terrified out of her wits. She rushed over and threw herself onto Xiao Changyuan, crying out loudly.
“I was lying to you!”
As soon as he heard her words, Xiao Changyuan stopped his motion to chop off his hand.
He lowered his thick, dark lashes and looked at her in confusion.
“Lying to me?”
Yun Pianpian quickly snatched the kitchen knife from Xiao Changyuan’s hand, her almond, shaped eyes filled with horror.
She hadn’t expected Xiao Changyuan to be so easily deceived, to take her words so seriously.
Placing the knife back on the cutting board, Yun Pianpian hurriedly explained, “My hand isn’t broken. I was lying to you. Look at my hand.”
She raised her hand, flexing her wrist a couple of times, it was no different from usual.
Her face pale, Yun Pianpian said, “See? You didn’t break my hand. You don’t need to give me yours.”
Xiao Changyuan glanced at Yun Pianpian’s hand, then lifted his gaze to meet hers.
His handsome, jade, like face darkened.
His eyes, deep as a cold pool, instantly froze over.
“Wife, you deceived me.”
A layer of uncontrollable rage spread within Xiao Changyuan's deep, cold eyes, sinister and terrifying.
“I despise being lied to the most.”
His voice was so low it seemed to seep with blood.
Upon hearing this, Yun Pianpian's heart skipped a beat.
He despises being lied to the most.
Then…isn't she doomed?
From the moment they met until now, she had hardly spoken a single truthful word to Xiao Changyuan.
She had been deceiving him from start to finish.
If Xiao Changyuan were to regain his memories three years later, wouldn't she be utterly destroyed by him?
At this thought, Yun Pianpian couldn't help but shudder.
She had to win Xiao Changyuan over within three years.
Otherwise, once he regained his memory, her fate would be more miserable than anyone else's.
The temperature in the air continued to drop, chilling Yun Pianpian back to her senses.
Seeing the icy, frigid look in Xiao Changyuan's eyes, Yun Pianpian quickly tried to make amends: “I didn't mean to deceive you. It's because you hurt my hand first, so I lied to you. I did it so you wouldn't hurt me again in the future.”
Xiao Changyuan pressed his thin lips together and watched her, his gaze cold and piercing. He said nothing.
Seeing his indifference, Yun Pianpian had no choice but to deploy her ultimate move.
Yun Pianpian raised her hand, pushed up her sleeve, and revealed her slender, reddened wrist.
She looked at Xiao Changyuan with a pitiful expression, her almond, shaped eyes misting over.
“Husband, it hurts so much.”
Hearing her soft, pitiful voice, the icy heart in Xiao Changyuan's chest felt as though it had been brushed by something light and gentle.
No matter how unyielding his heart was, when he encountered her, it would eventually soften like silk wrapped around a finger.
The ferocity in Xiao Changyuan's eyes gradually dissipated.
He lowered his dark gaze to her reddened wrist, his brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.
He raised his deep, cold eyes and looked at her seriously.
“Wife, I will never hurt you again.”
Hearing this, Yun Pianpian breathed a sigh of relief.
This guy is so easy to fool.
Later, Yun Pianpian would come to realize that Xiao Changyuan was not easy to deceive.
It was because he trusted her.
Yet she had used that trust to repeatedly hurt him.
From beginning to end, he had never caused her harm.
It was she who had been toying with his feelings.
Using all sorts of high, sounding, shameless excuses.
Don't rush to condemn Yun Pianpian just yet.
Because in the not, too, distant future, on a stormy night with thunder and lightning, Yun Pianpian would pay a heavy price for her lies.
That night, the rain fell heavily, the wind howled, the banana leaves trembled wildly, and the storm raged on without ceasing.
The next afternoon, Yun Pianpian, her cheeks flushed and her body weak and limp, struggled to get up. Holding her sore waist, she tearfully accused the tyrant.
“You once said you wouldn't hurt me! You liar!”
Upon hearing this, Xiao Changyuan, who had regained his memories, paused slightly while putting on his clothes and let out a faint, almost inaudible chuckle.
He turned around, his dark, cold eyes fixed on Yun Pianpian, a trace of near, mocking pity in his gaze.
“My Pianpian is truly naive, to still believe in a man's empty promises?”
Yun Pianpian stared blankly at the tyrant, tears welling up in her eyes, glistening and on the verge of overflowing.
The Xiao Changyuan of the past had been gentle, obedient, and followed her every word, but the Xiao Changyuan who had regained his memories was now cold and heartless.
Recalling the past, Yun Pianpian was overwhelmed with sorrow. With a loud wail, she burst into tears.
As the saying goes, the wheel of heaven turns, and the heavens spare no one.
But all of this is still yet to come.
At the moment, Xiao Changyuan has not yet regained his memories.
He is still deeply mired in Yun Pianpian’s grand deception, unable to extricate himself.
