Chapter 13
Lin Miao felt uneasy when she returned to her room.
She was the type of person who couldn’t sleep when something was weighing on her mind.
So, in the middle of the night, Lin Miao secretly went downstairs.
The spacious and dark living room…
As she walked down the stairs, she remembered all sorts of scary stories she had heard, feeling a little afraid to go any further. Versions of stories about child-eating monsters flooded her thoughts, and she felt like someone was watching her.
Just then, a pale hand reached out from behind.
Lin Miao was so scared that she grabbed the railing and closed her eyes, muttering, "Don’t eat me... don’t eat me... I’m not tasty…”
The young master, amused by her, said, "Shui Shui, it’s me. I won’t eat you."
Lin Miao opened her eyes and saw the young master’s handsome face. She sighed in relief and whispered, "You scared me! Why aren’t you asleep?"
The young master, mimicking her tone, whispered back, "I just woke up. What are you doing?"
"I’m going to get the book," Lin Miao said. "I can’t shake this feeling of unease unless I get it."
"I’ll go with you," the young master offered.
Without turning on the lights, only the moonlight lit the quiet villa, which still felt a bit scary.
The two children held hands as they made their way downstairs, then opened the front door.
They soon discovered that the garden in the moonlight looked like a beautiful scene bathed in silver. It was so beautiful that they didn’t feel as scared anymore.
Lin Miao stopped the young master, saying, "Wait here. Don’t catch a cold. I’ll be back soon."
She went outside, but the young master followed her into the moonlight.
Unable to stop him, Lin Miao took off her coat and gave it to him, then quickly ran to retrieve the book.
They had to go around to the window under the young master’s room.
The two children walked excitedly under the moonlight, trying not to make any noise.
Suddenly, they heard a sound, so they crouched down and moved forward slowly.
Though they couldn’t quite hear the voice from the window, they didn’t care, they were just there to get the book.
They quickly found the book on the ground and started heading back.
As Lin Miao held the book, it scraped against the bushes, and a voice came from the room, "Who’s there?"
The two of them exchanged nervous glances, then stood up and ran!
The person who opened the window only saw a child in a coat.
The two children ran all the way back upstairs.
Once in the room, Lin Miao realized something. "Brother, you... ran so fast just now."
The young master blinked, "I guess so."
Lin Miao was a little anxious. "Are you okay? Is anything wrong?"
The young master paused and checked his condition. "My heart is racing a little, and my breathing’s a bit heavy."
Lin Miao nearly started crying. "It’s my fault! I shouldn’t have gone to get the book. I’ll call the doctor! Brother, please don’t get hurt!"
The young master stopped her, "Wait a second, maybe it’s just because I ran too fast. Did you feel your heart racing?"
Lin Miao blinked. "I think I did."
"Let me rest for a bit. I think I’ll be fine," the young master said.
They stood for a while, then sat down, but Lin Miao kept anxiously watching the young master.
"It seems fine now," the young master said. "You can go back to sleep."
Lin Miao wasn’t reassured. She took off her shoes and lay down next to the young master. "I’ll sleep here. If you feel bad, wake me up!"
The young master thought for a moment, realizing she might not be able to sleep well if she went back. "Alright, if something happens, I’ll definitely wake you up."
The two children, having just experienced a midnight adventure, quickly fell asleep.
The next morning, Lin Miao woke up early and hurriedly woke the young master. Seeing he was fine, she sighed in relief.
Since Lin Miao usually woke the young master up, no one noticed that this morning was any different.
At breakfast, the young master’s father returned home.
Lin Miao felt a bit nervous, remembering how he had always been dissatisfied with her.
Luckily, the young master’s father didn’t say anything to her. He only asked the doctor about the young master’s condition and confirmed that his health had stabilized a lot, which made him breathe a sigh of relief.
His company was preparing for an IPO, so he didn’t have time to come home.
The old lady said, "It’s useful. Ever since Shui Shui came, Xiao Yu hasn’t fainted out of the blue."
The young master’s father frowned at this, not agreeing with it, but he didn’t comment on his mother’s words.
Lin Miao felt uneasy in her room. She was afraid the young master’s father would call her in for a conversation, but luckily, he didn’t.
Of course, he did talk to the young master, and when the young master came back, he complained to Lin Miao. "I can now predict exactly what each of them will say to me."
In Lin Miao’s mind, the young master had changed from a noble little prince in a painting to a very handsome little companion.
So, Lin Miao said, "Adults are always like this. My dad talks like that too, always the same few lines. I know what my grandma’s going to say before she even opens her mouth."
The young master leaned next to Lin Miao and thought for a while before asking, "Shui Shui, do you want to go to school?"
Lin Miao shook her head vigorously. "No! It’s not fun at school, I’m always so sad there."
The young master sighed. "Then, would it be too boring to stay at home with me?"
Lin Miao had already drawn a tic-tac-toe grid and looked up seriously. "No! I’m happiest when I’m with you, brother!"
The young master ruffled her hair. "I’m happy too."
"Well, since we’re both happy, then you should go easy on me and let me win a game, so I can be even happier," Lin Miao quickly added.
"So, you were just waiting for me to do that," the young master flicked Lin Miao’s forehead.
This time, they played especially fiercely, with a lot of squares on the grid. The game lasted more than twenty minutes.
Even the doctor came in, but they still hadn’t decided a winner.
When they saw the doctor, they quickly tossed the paper under the bed and pretended to be chatting.
The doctor didn’t notice, only commenting, "The young master looks great today."
The two of them exchanged glances and saw the word "Yay!" in each other’s eyes.
In this regard, they were becoming more and more in sync.
