Chapter 14
Grandmother was often not home, so the doctor and the butler were the real adults in the house, the ones who were in charge.
Lin Miao was a little afraid of these two people, while the young master didn’t want to listen to their endless nagging. It made him irritated.
So, the two little agents often secretly did things they weren’t allowed to do.
After the doctor left, Lin Miao crawled to the edge of the bed and picked up the paper she had thrown earlier.
The two of them grabbed pens and continued their game.
Lin Miao lost badly again.
In the evening, when the doctor checked the room and saw the young master quietly sleeping on the bed, he turned off the lights and left.
As he went downstairs, the door to the room next door opened slightly, and a small figure slipped out, quickly entering the young master's room.
Lin Miao was lying on the bed, “Brother, your blanket and pillow smell so nice! They have a kind of sunshine scent.”
“They were taken out to be sun-dried. When you go back, you’ll find that your own blanket smells the same,” the young master rubbed her head.
Lin Miao rolled over and suddenly noticed, “Hey, this seems to be my blanket! Your blanket has the honeysuckle pattern, and mine has this pattern.” She recognized the honeysuckle because their hometown had a huge honeysuckle vine.
Actually, both blankets were white with subtle patterns. If you didn’t look closely, you wouldn’t notice the difference.
The young master didn’t feel like switching it back, since they were both the same.
The two of them played for a while, and eventually, feeling tired, Lin Miao went back to her own room to sleep.
Lin Miao usually woke up at 7:30 AM to call her brother for breakfast.
But, strangely, when she went to his room this morning, she found that he wasn’t in bed. She could hear someone in the bathroom.
Just as she was about to comment on how early her brother had woken up, the bathroom door opened, and before she could see clearly, the young master jumped from the bathroom to the bed in one swift motion, quickly wrapping himself up in the blankets, hiding his whole body.
Lin Miao was a little confused, “Brother, what happened?”
The young master’s voice came from under the blankets, sounding frightened, “Shui Shui, don’t come over, I look really scary!!”
Lin Miao had no idea what was happening, but hearing her brother speak like this for the first time also startled her. She quickly said, “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, I’ll go see what happened.”
In that moment, Lin Miao imagined many different kinds of monsters in her mind.
However, she wasn’t scared. She slowly approached the bed while softly speaking to him in a tone that resembled how she comforted her younger brother when he doubted life after a mixed doubles match, “Brother, don’t be scared, Shui Shui will check.”
The young master’s voice came again from the blankets, “Don’t come over! It’s really scary.”
Lin Miao whispered, “I’ll just take a quick look at what you turned into. I won’t be scared, because I like you the most, brother.”
At that moment, Lin Miao saw the originally pure white hand covered with several red spots.
Lin Miao recognized it immediately, “Chickenpox! Brother, how did you get chickenpox?”
She had gotten chickenpox in first grade, from her deskmate, and it was incredibly painful.
The young master’s voice came from under the blankets, “What did you say?”
Lin Miao quickly replied, “Brother, don’t be scared, I’ll call the doctor. You have chickenpox! I had it before, and it will get better soon, don’t be afraid!”
Lin Miao rushed to call the doctor.
The doctor and the butler soon arrived.
They hurriedly examined the young master. The young master kept turning his face to the side, not letting Lin Miao see.
The doctor quickly confirmed, “It’s chickenpox.”
When Grandma heard “chickenpox,” her expression turned serious. For a normal child, chickenpox could be treated with medicine and would heal quickly, but the young master’s body wasn’t strong, and there could be complications...
At that moment, the doctor, while preparing the medicine, furrowed his brows, “Strange, if it’s chickenpox, the infected person is the only source of infection. Has anyone here had chickenpox?”
The butler turned to Lin Miao and asked, “How do you know it’s chickenpox?”
The young master coughed twice from the bed, a little impatiently, and said in a hoarse voice, “I told her. She thought I was turning into a monster. I read about it in a book. Since it’s contagious, Grandma, you guys go out first.”
Grandma patted his head, “Grandma isn’t afraid. You don’t be afraid either.”
After the doctor mentioned that the person with chickenpox was the only contagious one, Lin Miao couldn’t help but burst into tears, her tears streaming down. Although the young master had helped her cover it up, she still couldn’t hold back, sobbing, “Grandma, I’m sorry. I had chickenpox...”
The young master coughed twice, “Shui Shui, don’t say such things.”
Grandma was startled, then turned to look at Lin Miao.
At that moment, the doctor turned to Lin Miao, looking a little puzzled, and asked, “Did you get it now?”
“I didn’t get it now, I had it in first grade. My deskmate gave it to me,” Lin Miao choked, the more she spoke, the sadder she felt, feeling that she was the one who had caused her brother to get chickenpox.
“It’s been a while, don’t cry. You can’t pass it on after you’ve recovered,” the doctor quickly said, “You don’t need to worry.”
Grandma couldn’t help but smile, rubbing the young master’s head, “You two really have a good relationship.”
After hearing the whole conversation, Grandma understood. Lin Miao had recognized the chickenpox first, but when the doctor asked, the young master, worried that the doctor and Lin Miao would blame her, said he had recognized it.
The young master turned his head awkwardly, not saying anything.
Grandma took the doctor and Lin Miao downstairs.
The doctor had something to discuss with Grandma, so he left Lin Miao in her own room.
Lin Miao waited for them to go downstairs, her eyes swollen, and then she secretly slipped back into the room.
The young master was quietly lying there. Lin Miao felt so upset.
She thought about the time when she had chickenpox, the painful and itchy feeling all over her body.
It was unbearable.
The young master hadn’t fallen asleep yet, his voice hoarse, “Don’t mess up my things next time.”
Lin Miao sat silently by his bed, her face flushed as she tried not to cry. She took the medicine the doctor had prescribed and gently rubbed the little red spots in his short hair.
She had had it before, so she knew exactly where it hurt the most…
