Chapter 17

Soon, Father Yu and Mother Yu arrived and saved the situation.
After they returned home, the adults went into the study and were talking about something.
The young master and Lin Miao went back to the young master's room.
Lin Miao had a vague feeling that something significant might be about to happen.
Once in the room, the young master immediately checked his bedside cabinet.
Then, he found that it only contained a few bottles of the regular medicine he took.
"Shui Shui, did you notice the medicine in here when you left?" the young master asked Lin Miao.
Lin Miao shook her head, "I didn't pay attention to that at the time, so I don't know."
At that time, all she could think about was staying with her brother in the hospital, and since the hospital had all the necessary medicine, she forgot to grab his medicine.
The young master's medicine was the one he used for treating the chickenpox, as well as the medicine he regularly took, which he had stored in the cabinet.
The young master furrowed his brow, "Call Grandma over."
He then remembered what the adults were doing and had Lin Miao help him go downstairs.
It made no sense for someone to scheme against him and get away with it.
He generally didn't care much, but this had crossed a line.
The two of them arrived at the study, and they overheard Grandma's voice from inside, "You don't even know where you went wrong. You say you don't know why there were so many reporters, I’ll reluctantly believe that, but why is it that other celebrity children are never exposed?"
"I've tolerated it every time, your wedding, pregnancy, the birth of Xiao Yu, his sickness, his school events, all of them turned into media spectacles. You say it's for your career, but you need to remember, you are not only an actress but also a mother!"
Lin Miao tightly grasped the young master's hand.
The young master knocked calmly on the door. "Grandma, I have something to say."
Inside, all three adults went quiet.
The door opened.
Grandma looked tired. "Xiao Yu, the adults will handle things."
The young master replied, "I want to talk about the chickenpox."
"When I left, I placed the medicine for the chickenpox and the regular medicine in my bedside cabinet. When I came back, the medicine for the chickenpox and the ointment were gone, and only my regular medicine was left. The doctor said that the only source of transmission for chickenpox is the infected person."
The reason the young master was so sensitive about this was that when he got infected with chickenpox, the only thing that had changed in his room was that his blanket had been swapped with Shui Shui's.
The doctor confirmed that it was impossible for Shui Shui to be the cause, but the young master didn't completely rule out the possibility of the blanket mix-up.
So, before leaving, he had placed all his chickenpox medicine in the bedside cabinet.
The three adults now looked serious.
Father Yu immediately made a call and had someone come over.
Afterward, the young master, together with Lin Miao, returned to Lin Miao’s room.
The two kids didn’t need to be involved in such complicated matters.
Lin Miao only knew that the next day, the housekeeper was taken by the police for questioning.
The adults didn’t tell the children about the details.
The young master knew more, like how the housekeeper's nephew had developed chickenpox, and that the blankets had been swapped, which meant the issue had been meant for Shui Shui.
According to the police's investigation, the housekeeper's original intent was to make Lin Miao catch chickenpox and then send her away.
However, the young master felt this didn't make sense, as Shui Shui had never intentionally caused him harm. The entire situation seemed illogical for someone to go to such lengths to target a child.
As for the medicine, the housekeeper thought the young master wouldn't notice the missing medicine and figured the medicine prescribed by the doctor was better than anything from outside, so he just took it.
The housekeeper was dismissed, and the next day, Yu Mother had to leave again. The production had been halted for three days, and the funds couldn’t last much longer. Father Yu also had to leave for work.
Meanwhile, the incident involving the reporters had made it onto the internet.
Public opinion was divided, with some focusing on the young master's appearance, marveling that even with chickenpox, he still looked so handsome, like a little prince. Others criticized the reporters for lacking morals, almost injuring the young girl with their microphones.
There were also many who were curious about the little girl with the young master, commenting on how sweet it was when he blocked the microphone from her eyes.
The young master didn’t watch TV or use his phone, and Lin Miao didn’t like it either, so they were unaware of all this.
The new housekeeper was a middle-aged woman who appeared gentle and spoke little.
Lin Miao borrowed the young master's phone to call the village head's house again, but her mother still hadn’t come back.
The young master comforted her, "She'll definitely be back for the New Year. Don't worry, just focus on learning English."
In reality, he was planning to take her to the Maldives to see the sea during the New Year, and by then, she would probably have forgotten about all this.
Downstairs, Grandma was talking to the housekeeper when she saw a photo of Lin Miao and the young master together in an entertainment news article. The young master had blocked the microphone from Lin Miao’s eyes.
Grandma had been smiling, but after recalling a phone call from a master earlier, she quickly called to have the post removed.
After a while, the article disappeared, and Grandma finally relaxed.
When she went upstairs, she saw the two children sitting on the bed, playing a game of "I clap, you clap."
Sure enough, children liked to play with others their age.
Soon, the Mid-Autumn Festival arrived. The female housekeeper had already prepared mooncakes.
Lin Miao loved the Mid-Autumn Festival because every year, her father would bring mooncakes home, and her mother would cook a big meal, including stewed preserved meat with potatoes.
The family would gather around the table, happily eating.
After the meal, they would sit in the yard, watch the moon, and listen to her mother tell stories.
But this year, when she woke up, there were all sorts of mooncakes piled up by her bedside. She and her brother shared one, but it didn’t taste as good as the ones her father would bring.
That evening, Father Yu and Mother Yu returned, and they all ate together. The atmosphere at the dinner table was quiet, and Lin Miao also ate quietly.
After the meal, the three adults seemed to have something to discuss, so they went to the study.
On this Mid-Autumn Festival, the doctor had gone home, and the female housekeeper was still familiarizing herself with the house.
Lin Miao secretly took the young master outside to watch the moon.
Her parents, younger brother, and the villagers were probably eating and watching the moon as well.
The Mid-Autumn moon hung high in the sky, round and lonely.
The two little friends leaned against each other, and Lin Miao told her brother the story of Chang’e.
Her mother told it every year.
As she spoke, Lin Miao felt her nose turn sour.
She missed her mother, her younger brother, and her father. She missed the little friends in the village and wished she could take her brother and Grandma to live there.
