Chapter 25
Death warrant?
Tang Jiu frowned, understanding dawning on her.
Some of the other players had a vague inkling, while others still looked completely lost.
Gu Yi’an twirled a card in her hand and explained for those who hadn’t grasped it.
"If we can’t find the real way to clear the level, we’ll die in various accidents. Understand?"
If Gu Yi’an were to put it more brutally, it would be: fail to solve the game, and you die.
The male player who had just spoken said, "I get that part. It’s like a sword hanging over our heads, forcing us to clear the level quickly. But those accidents aren’t completely unrelated to clearing the game, are they? If they were unrelated, why would the gods give us that hint?"
His last point won the agreement of most people.
They still trusted the hint from the gods.
Gu Yi’an didn’t oppose that point.
She said, "I’m not saying their accidental deaths are unrelated to our clearing the game. Those accidents are also an important part of the game. They’re of the same nature as the missing vendor incident we investigated today, the incident of Sister Man’s killing last night, and the incident of Liu Han’s unauthorized intrusion in the middle of the night. They are all manifestations of the evil we’ve encountered."
Thinking of this, Gu Yi’an added, "We also have a second way to clear the level."
Tang Jiu had just popped a candy into her mouth. Hearing Gu Yi’an’s words, she mumbled indistinctly, "You’ve already thought of one method, that’s impressive enough. And there’s a second one?"
Everyone was quite curious upon hearing this.
Seeing the veteran players' faces filled with curiosity, Gu Yi'an was a bit puzzled. "There are many ways to clear The Game of the Gods. As long as God is entertained, it's fine. Why do you all seem like it's your first time hearing this?"
Based on Gu Yi'an's own gaming experience, in her first game, the veteran player Brother Zhang she encountered used deception against new players, putting on a fraudulent show for God.
Although she ended the game early, she guessed Brother Zhang probably managed to clear it in the end.
In her second game, when she left the game world, she saw the Merchant, the Witch, and the Student all successfully clear the game.
She wasn't sure if it was because Mr. Demon said killing the demon would allow them to clear, but she felt even the seemingly weak student was quite extraordinary.
The other players sitting around the table listened to Gu Yi'an's words, and one player asked in confusion, "Isn't it just about finding the right way to clear the game so that God is entertained?"
The one asking was still a veteran player.
Gu Yi'an glanced at Tang Jiu.
Tang Jiu said vaguely, "Why look at me? I usually just beat those ghosts and monsters to death, then return to my own space. How would I know this game hasn't even encountered a single ghost yet?"
So it was a brute force clearance.
Gu Yi'an understood.
Her gaze swept over the faces of the players present, eight players in total, with two male players being newcomers.
Having seen many cunning players, she never expected that in this round, she would encounter all "honest" players, players who honestly triggered game events, deduced ways to clear the game, and solved puzzles to advance.
No wonder they almost believed everything she said and didn't question her plan to overthrow the Divine Eye system much.
Probably, the other players were waiting for more events to trigger and more clues to appear; the current clues weren't enough for them to draw conclusions.
Why do my teammates all seem a bit... not so smart?
Gu Yi'an felt mentally exhausted.
Because she herself wasn't all that clever either.
Oh well, even a fool occasionally hits on the truth.
Looking at everyone's curious faces, Gu Yi'an still revealed the second way to clear the game.
"Become the embodiment of sin. You can learn from Sister Man, or from Liu Han who broke in last night, or from the person whose house we were just about to break into. Of course, I don't recommend this method. If you do this, even if I can't capture you, the enforcement team will be waiting for you."
If she really had to list ways to clear the game, Gu Yi'an could mention several more, like Brother Zhang's method of deceiving new players, or pretending to be a new player to deceive veterans, or even eliminating all other players to be the sole survivor.
This method of players turning against each other was surely something that malicious god would enjoy watching.
But the price paid would be their lives.
Therefore, Gu Yi'an had no intention of speaking up and corrupting these "honest folks."
If they could clear the game on their own, why resort to disregarding others' lives?
When the other players heard Gu Yi'an mention the second method, most showed resistance on their faces, but none seemed tempted to act on it.
They weren’t foolish, under the surveillance of the Divine Eye system, unfamiliar players like them had no chance of evading consequences.
No one spoke much at the dining table, and the topic of clearing the game came to an end.
Gu Yi'an collected the materials and said, "Let’s head back."
The restaurant owner, who had been standing not far away, noticed Gu Yi'an and the others preparing to leave. He shuffled over again, a hopeful glint in his eyes, and asked, "Are you going to investigate him?"
Gu Yi'an paused for a moment, then showed the owner the text message she had just received from the Divine Eye on her phone.
The hope in the owner’s eyes vanished.
Witnessing this, the group felt uneasy, but there was nothing they could do, they had to follow the Divine Eye’s instructions.
They stood up and left the restaurant.
Everyone’s mood was somber.
Gu Yi'an wasn’t feeling great either.
Tang Jiu handed Gu Yi'an another piece of candy. Without waiting to see if she would eat it, Tang Jiu unwrapped one for herself and pointed to a candy shop in the distance with a large sign. "Gu Yi'an, look over there, that’s the store where I bought the candy."
So?
Gu Yi'an glanced at Tang Jiu, questioning her intention.
"You have the card. Buy me some more candy," Tang Jiu said, her eyes full of hope.
Without much thought, Gu Yi'an shook her head and refused.
It wasn’t her card, after all.
She couldn’t use it recklessly.
Tang Jiu could tell Gu Yi'an wasn’t going to budge.
She withdrew her gaze, dejected.
The group of players headed toward where they had parked.
Along the way, surveillance cameras were everywhere, on the streetlights, on the trash cans, even on the store signs.
Suddenly, the male player who had earlier suggested finding the culprit to clear the game let out a panicked shout.
"Oh no!"
The other players, along with a few passersby, turned to look at him in confusion.
With a terrified expression, the male player motioned for Gu Yi'an and the others to gather closer.
Gu Yi'an and Tang Jiu couldn’t figure out what was wrong with him, but after a moment’s hesitation, the eight of them formed a circle.
Only then did the male player lower his voice and say, "There are cameras all over this street. Doesn’t that mean we’ve been talking about going against it right in front of it? What if it arrests us?"
The "it" in his words, with a little thought, clearly referred to the Divine Eye system.
After speaking, the male player expected everyone to agree with him, but instead, he was met with looks as if he were an idiot.
"What’s wrong? Doesn’t it eavesdrop on our conversations? The investigation’s been canceled," Tang Jiu said, giving him a disdainful look before leading the way.
"Hey! Why are you all leaving? Wait for me!"
The other players ignored him. It was Gu Yi'an who, unable to stand his confusion, offered an explanation.
"It’s just an artificial intelligence. It’s responsible for monitoring. The actual decisions are made by people. In other words, it was a person who sent us the message saying the investigation was over."
"Sinless City is so vast; we're not the only ones who've thought of overthrowing it. The Divine Eye has to maintain the city's daily operations, and its workload is heavy every day. It doesn't have the time to deal with people like us who just talk about it, unless we actually do something. But even if we do, as long as our actions aren't illegal, the Divine Eye has no reason to arrest us. It's just an artificial intelligence."
Gu Yi'an noticed the male player still looked confused. She sighed and asked, "Did the Divine Eye send us any warning messages after our discussion?"
The male player shook his head. "No."
Gu Yi'an said, "So it's fine. Freedom of speech."
The male player finally understood and said, "You could have just said that directly. I was completely lost earlier and thought I was stupid."
He was complaining that Gu Yi'an's explanation was too convoluted.
Gu Yi'an fell silent.
He wasn't the first person to dislike this trait of hers.
The last one was Mr. Swindler, Mr. Demon pretending to be Mr. Swindler, whose true identity was a god.
This male player was nowhere near as good as Mr. Swindler.
Gu Yi'an glanced at the male player, then turned and got into the car.
The male player didn't notice anything unusual about Gu Yi'an's reaction and even chased after her, laughing and thanking her a few times before getting into the car.
The journey back to the Investigation Bureau took a while.
Gu Yi'an sat in the back seat, took out her phone, and searched for "Sinless City" again.
The search results still showed an idyllic picture.
She tried changing the search terms, adding words like "public safety," "crime," "Investigation Bureau," and "Enforcement Team" one by one.
When she added "Enforcement Team," an unexpected result appeared as the top search result.
The Enforcement Team had officially issued a warrant for the arrest of former Investigation Bureau team leader Qian Xiaoman.
Gu Yi'an clicked to read the details.
Tang Jiu, who had been watching Gu Yi'an's actions, leaned over to look as well.
After reading it, Tang Jiu exclaimed in surprise, "This Sister Man is something else. She actually dared to snatch a target from the Enforcement Team."
Gu Yi'an was also surprised, but more than that, she was puzzled.
The warrant listed Qian Xiaoman's crimes: besides killing her husband and two rookie investigators, she had also ambushed a vehicle at night and killed Liu Han.
Why would Qian Xiaoman kill Liu Han?
It was utterly baffling.
Tang Jiu's focus was entirely different from Gu Yi'an's. She sighed and said, "Daring to hijack the Enforcement Team's vehicle, they probably never expected anyone to target them. They've lost face, and I doubt they'll let Sister Man off easily."
Her tone carried a hint of concern for Sister Man.
Gu Yi'an couldn't figure out why Sister Man would kill Liu Han, so she decided not to dwell on it further.
The players returned to the investigation bureau, and their first order of business was to head to the director’s office to find Brother Yong and Lu Zize.
The camera on the door lock of the director’s office recognized Gu Yi'an’s face and automatically opened the door for them.
As soon as the door opened, Gu Yi'an glanced inside, no one was there.
"What are you standing there for?"
Brother Yong’s dissatisfied voice came from nearby.
Gu Yi'an and the others turned toward the sound and saw Brother Yong standing at the entrance of a conference room diagonally opposite the office, frowning deeply as he looked at them.
It seemed Brother Yong was particularly unhappy with their performance.
"Has your investigation mission concluded?"
A gentle, clear voice spoke up, and Lu Zize also emerged from the doorway.
He was holding a pen resembling a marker and smiled, welcoming the players back.
Lu Zize suggested, "Since you’re back now, why not join us in the analysis?"
The moment Gu Yi'an saw Lu Zize appear, she suddenly recalled something he had once said.
Back then, she had shown him the text message Liu Han sent her.
Later, Lu Zize told her that Liu Han wouldn’t survive the night.
Indeed, Liu Han hadn’t made it through last night, he was killed by Sister Man.
Could it be that Lu Zize had instructed Sister Man to kill him?
Gu Yi'an harbored suspicions in her heart.
Without showing any emotion, she followed the other players into the conference room.
At the front of the conference room, a whiteboard was set up, with several photos from accident scenes attached by magnets. Beside them were written notes.
Gu Yi'an skimmed through them briefly, they were analyses of the causes of death for several investigators who had died under mysterious circumstances.
Apart from computers, the conference table was covered in thick stacks of documents.
Brother Yong watched the players enter the conference room, his brow furrowed the entire time.
Only after everyone had found seats did Brother Yong ask, "Did you find any results in the investigation of the missing vendors?"
The other players looked at Gu Yi'an.
Their unspoken message was clear: they wanted Gu Yi'an to act as their representative.
Gu Yi'an replied, "We traced it to a meat vendor, but the Divine Eye notified us that the mission was over."
Upon hearing this, Brother Yong instinctively glanced at Lu Zize before responding impatiently to the players, "Just do whatever the Divine Eye says."
Gu Yi'an feigned curiosity and asked, "Team Leader, didn’t you receive a notification from the Divine Eye?"
Brother Yong snapped back, "We weren’t there, so how would we get a notification? Less watching, more doing. Stop asking so many questions. Am I the team leader, or are you? Did you hear me?"
The other players, inexplicably caught in the crossfire, glanced at Gu Yi'an and, meeting Brother Yong’s angry gaze, quickly nodded.
For some reason, Brother Yong seemed to find the players irritating and fired off a series of questions, "What are you sitting here for? Do you know them? Have you seen their death scenes? Do you even realize you could be next?"
He inexplicably launched into a tirade against the players.
None of the players present could understand Brother Yong's unusual behavior.
Lu Zize stood to the side, holding a whiteboard marker, his expression mostly one of helplessness.
As Brother Yong berated the players, Lu Zize used his eyes to soothe them.
With Brother Yong as a contrast, most players felt quite favorable toward Lu Zize, who seemed like a guiding presence.
During a pause in Brother Yong’s speech, Lu Zize said, "Brother Yong, I was the one who invited them in. There are only two of us in the investigation bureau right now. We should teach them some skills."
"Then you teach them," Brother Yong retorted, brushing him off.
Lu Zize took a step to the side, effectively blocking Brother Yong’s path.
He sighed helplessly, "Brother Yong."
Brother Yong relented, "Lu Zize, let me calm down by myself."
In front of so many players, Lu Zize seemed to have no intention of having a heart-to-heart talk with Brother Yong. He stepped aside and said, "Brother Yong, I left the alcohol I bought for you in the passenger seat."
Brother Yong patted Lu Zize's shoulder without saying anything and left.
Lu Zize watched the door for a moment before turning to face the players. He suggested, "Would you like to analyze the cause of the investigators' deaths with me, or would you prefer to rest? If you choose to analyze the deaths, you'll need to familiarize yourselves with some materials first to understand their general situations."
Of course, the players wouldn't choose the latter.
Everyone opted to investigate the cause of the former investigators' deaths.
Lu Zize led them to the photocopier, made copies of the materials, and distributed them to the players.
He told the players to review the materials, discuss any ideas they had among themselves, and save their questions to ask him all at once later.
The players were given clear instructions and had no choice but to take the materials back to the meeting room.
Gu Yi'an held the materials and deliberately slowed her pace, waiting for Lu Zize, who was behind her.
Seeing Gu Yi'an's action, Lu Zize stopped and asked calmly, "Yi'an, is there something you need?"
As he spoke, he glanced at Tang Jiu, who was sticking close to Gu Yi'an.
Tang Jiu avoided his gaze.
At that moment, Gu Yi'an was filled with various questions about Lu Zize.
Outwardly, she remained composed and said, "Brother Lu, I saw the warrant issued by the enforcement team for Sister Man today."
Upon hearing this, a hint of gloom flickered in Lu Zize's eyes, but his voice remained gentle.
"I'm aware of that matter."
Gu Yi'an looked up at Lu Zize, her gaze filled with undisguised confusion.
"You're curious about my relationship with Sister Man?"
Lu Zize smiled faintly, unbothered by Gu Yi'an's suspicion.
He said, "If you're willing to listen, I can tell you about it."
Of course, Gu Yi'an was willing to listen. She wanted to gather more clues from Lu Zize and understand his connection to the deceased investigators.
Seeing her reaction, Lu Zize said, "Come with me to the office."
They moved to the chief's office.
Lu Zize casually brewed himself a cup of tea and asked Tang Jiu and Gu Yi'an if they would like one as well.
Out of politeness, Gu Yi'an accepted a cup, while Tang Jiu declined.
Lu Zize sat in the director's chair, with steam rising from the teacup and water glass. He kept his distance, ensuring the steam didn't fog up his glasses.
Lu Zize said, "I actually only arrived a few days earlier than you. I've known Sister Man and the others for a long time, about a year ago. It started because of an accidental death case. My mother died, and Sister Man came to investigate."
He recalled, "Sister Man is a good person. Her temper is actually quite similar to yours, Yi'an."
Gu Yi'an, holding her tea, froze for a moment.
Similar to her?
The first image that came to her mind was Sister Man sitting on the steps crying last night, followed by the scene of two bodies with slit throats on the ground.
Gu Yi'an couldn't possibly act like Sister Man.
A look of understanding flashed in Tang Jiu's eyes.
She had found the reason why Lu Zize treated Gu Yi'an differently. She had always found it strange, if it was just because Gu Yi'an had initially decided to follow along, the goodwill seemed to come too quickly.
Gu Yi'an's focus was slightly different from Tang Jiu's.
She felt that Lu Zize's attitude toward Sister Man was quite cold. Last evening, he had only stood by, looking down at Sister Man from above.
If he truly cared about Sister Man, why didn't he step forward to comfort her?
Lu Zize gazed at the surface of the tea and said, "Sister Man helped me a lot. Coincidentally, the investigation bureau was short-staffed this month, so I told Sister Man I'd come to assist her. That's why I joined earlier than you."
"She could have lived a good life. But everything was ruined by Liu Han."
Liu Han, the peeping tom who had sent Gu Yi'an a text message, climbed into the investigation bureau, tried to take Gu Yi'an away, was taken by the enforcement team, and was ultimately killed by Sister Man.
"Liu Han used various methods to secretly take photos of people and extort money. Sister Man also fell victim to this. Her husband found out, and their marital relationship suffered as a result."
Lu Zize recounted this matter calmly, without injecting any personal emotion.
Hearing this, Gu Yi'an felt that Lu Zize's explanation largely clarified why Sister Man had called him first and why she had killed Liu Han.
Clutching her teacup with both hands, she fell into thought.
"Run for your life!"
A scream pierced Gu Yi'an's ears.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Suddenly, violent noises erupted from outside.
The office door wasn't fully closed, making the gunshots especially clear.
Gu Yi'an immediately looked toward Lu Zize in the office chair.
At that moment, Lu Zize was sipping his tea, his glasses fogged with a layer of mist.
His gentle voice inexplicably carried a hint of coldness.
"Someone has broken into the armory."
Gu Yi'an set down her teacup and headed for the door.
The commotion outside abruptly ceased.
Just as Gu Yi'an reached the doorway, Tang Jiu had already rushed out ahead of her.
Gu Yi'an hesitated for a moment, then turned to look at Lu Zize behind the desk.
"Was this within your expectations?"
Gu Yi'an suspected that Lu Zize had known the players would break into the armory for weapons, which was why he had taught them how to obtain the director's authority, giving them the illusion that having the director's privileges would grant them access to weapons.
Lu Zize removed his glasses.
Without them, his eyes seemed sharper, making him appear more imposing and unapproachable.
He took out a glasses cloth and wiped the lenses, his movements relaxed and unhurried.
Yet his voice remained warm and pleasant, "I never said the director's authority allows unauthorized use of weapons."
But today, when you taught everyone how to obtain director-level permissions, you deliberately mentioned that accessing weapons requires authorization.
Gu Yi’an wanted to refute him, but the reality now was that it was the players themselves who had taken the initiative to break into the armory.
Who could they blame?
Blame Lu Zize for not making things clear?
Lu Zize put his black-framed glasses back on and gave Gu Yi’an a gentle smile, as amiable as when they first met, making people feel a sense of goodwill.
Gu Yi’an glanced at him, then turned and left.
The armory was located at the far edge of the office building. When Gu Yi’an arrived, she only saw the corpses of two male players.
Tang Jiu had searched online for the funeral home’s phone number and was calling them.
"Yes, it’s the Investigation Bureau. Two of them. You’re asking why people are dying again? How should I know why people are dying again? Thanks, but no need to save me a nice coffin. I’m perfectly alive. Are you cursing me to die? You’re the one who’ll die today!"
Tang Jiu hung up the phone with an irritated expression.
Gu Yi’an glanced at the players present and asked, "Why did you break into the armory?"
Only two male players remained on the scene, one was the veteran player who had complained about leg pain and mouth ulcers, and the other was the newbie who had stayed at Sister Man’s place all night with his snide remarks.
Hearing Gu Yi’an’s question, they awkwardly replied, "Well, there are guns, aren’t there?"
Is that really worth breaking in for?
Gu Yi’an looked at the players, puzzled.
A female player spoke up, "We thought since we could get director-level permissions, and the Investigation Bureau only has us investigators now, shouldn’t the weapons logically be reserved for us? Why not take them if they’re available?"
Hearing this, Gu Yi’an raised a hand and pressed it against her forehead.
She sighed and asked everyone, "Have any of you seen weapons on Brother Yong or Lu Zize?"
The other players thought about it and realized they really hadn’t seen any.
They shook their heads.
"They can’t even access the armory themselves!"
Gu Yi’an raised her voice back to its normal volume and asked, "Do you really think we can get weapons just by having director-level permissions?"
Her gaze swept over the players still standing at the scene.
Aside from Tang Jiu, the rest of the players avoided Gu Yi’an’s eyes.
Gu Yi’an looked at them and concluded, "This is a trap specifically set for us players."
The atmosphere at the scene grew stiff and cold at these words.
Who would have known it was a trap?
A chill ran down the players’ spines.
They guarded the bodies, waiting for the funeral home staff to arrive.
When the funeral home staff arrived and saw the players' grim expressions, they weren't surprised.
One of them even stepped forward to console them, saying, "What's the big deal about death? I promise I'll arrange a nice coffin for each of you when I come to pick you up."
This immediately stirred up a hornet's nest.
The tactless funeral home worker was chased and beaten up by two furious male players.
After the body was taken away, the players had nowhere else to go, so they returned to the conference room.
One player asked, "Are Lu Zize and He Yong both suspicious?"
The question earned them eye-rolls from the others.
It was obvious.
What they were worried about was that, even though they knew these people were suspicious, they didn't know what to do.
They couldn't find any evidence of Lu Zize's crimes.
Even if the players wanted to stay away from Lu Zize and avoid him, they couldn't.
The players were penniless and had nowhere to go.
Moreover, their every move was under the surveillance of the Divine Eye system. Taking unauthorized actions could easily be flagged as abnormal behavior, which might lead to an investigation.
What confused the players even more was what they were supposed to do.
The beginner's hint said there were no coincidences in the world.
Lu Zize's methods of killing seemed to be creating coincidences.
Were they supposed to catch Lu Zize?
But Gu Yi'an said the way to clear the game was to overthrow the Divine Eye system, which sounded plausible and matched their experiences over the past two days.
What were they supposed to do?
The players sank into deep confusion.
The new male player gritted his teeth and said, "What if we... take out Lu Zize?"
He gestured across his neck.
A female player frowned and said, "He knows this place inside and out. How are we supposed to take him out? There are only six of us now. If we were fighting ghosts, we could probably wear them down with our tools. Wait, there are still six of us!"
The female player exclaimed excitedly, "Let's take him out!"
Gu Yi'an listened helplessly and pointed at the camera on the conference table.
She was now the spiritual leader everyone relied on.
Although she was a "Monday morning quarterback" who only figured out Lu Zize's trap after the fact, at least she remained calm in a crisis and seemed very reliable.
The players were always watching her actions and immediately followed her gesture to the camera.
Gu Yi'an said, "They have the ability to access the office building's cameras, which means they might be listening to our conversation right now."
Leaving aside whether the six of them could wear Lu Zize down, Tang Jiu was probably the only one among them who could fight.
The problem now was that Lu Zize might already know the players' intentions. How could they fight him? Lu Zize could easily use his authority to take action against them.
The players looked at each other and fell into silence.
At that moment, a female player had a sudden idea and said, "It's just a camera, it can only see, not hear."
Gu Yi'an nodded. "Right."
The female player was thrilled to have Gu Yi'an's agreement.
But the next second, Gu Yi'an pointed to the microphones in front of every seat in the conference room. "Sound equipment for work."
The excited female player was instantly deflated.
Gu Yi'an said, "Look on the bright side, he might not be listening."
No one was comforted by her words.
They all felt deeply discouraged.
"So the hotel has audio surveillance too? The Divine Eye heard our conversation and sent us the notification right away?" another female player belatedly realized.
Gu Yi'an looked at them with confusion, a speculation forming in her mind.
She said, "Yes. Didn't a male player ask us whether the Divine Eye would hear us discussing how to deal with it?"
She remembered how the other players had ignored him at the time, and she was the one who responded to that male player.
Gu Yi'an glanced over the faces of the remaining players.
The player who had raised the question was no longer among them, he was already dead.
"I thought the Divine Eye only had cameras. I had no idea it could actually hear," a female player said apologetically.
The other players remained silent, but their expressions revealed they had thought the same.
Gu Yi'an looked at Tang Jiu.
Tang Jiu immediately understood her gaze and said, "Not me. If the Divine Eye couldn't hear, its notifications wouldn't come so quickly and timely. So it definitely heard."
Gu Yi'an withdrew her gaze.
At least there was one teammate on the same wavelength as her.
The other four players realized they had been thinking in the wrong direction and decided to leave the brainstorming to the professionals.
They stared at Gu Yi'an with hopeful eyes.
Meeting their gaze, Gu Yi'an knew she had to step up, even if she wasn't entirely confident.
Her teammates trusted her.
After a moment's thought, Gu Yi'an decided to give them a heads-up and said sincerely, "Don't trust me completely. I'm only speculating, and there's an element of gambling involved."
The other players didn't take her words to heart, assuming she was just being modest.
Gu Yi'an continued, "We have two goals now. The long-term goal is to overthrow the Divine Eye system, and the short-term goal is to find evidence of Lu Zize's crimes. We can't kill anyone. The moment we do, we become part of the evil. At that point, the Divine Eye system will detect it immediately, and we'll face pursuit from the enforcement team."
"If we stay on the side of good, our path becomes half as difficult."
Gu Yi'an pondered and said, "As for his evidence... we'll start with Brother Yong."
Yesterday, Brother Yong had taken away a small item she found.
Gu Yi'an felt that Brother Yong was hiding something, he definitely knew more than he let on.
Moreover, from her observations of Brother Yong's behavior over the past two days, he didn't seem to be on the same side as Lu Zize.
"Ding!"
The familiar sound of a message notification interrupted what Gu Yi'an was about to say.
Gu Yi’an had a sinking feeling.
She took out her phone and checked her messages.
Sender: Divine Eye.
"Former team leader He Yong died in a car accident at 5:17 PM on the East Ring Line of the Divine Eye Direct Jurisdiction Special Zone due to drunk driving. Junior investigator Lu Zize is now appointed as the new team leader of the Investigation Bureau, effective immediately."
Brother Yong was dead.
