Chapter 28

Following Shen Youwei’s instructions, Guan Shanyan called the police. Gao Yun didn’t stop him but stayed to handle the officers while Shen Youwei continued styling Nan Xu.
This was Shen Youwei’s second time styling Nan Xu, so she worked more skillfully than before.
Because the police were called by Guan Shanyan, they first approached him. With the video evidence of Sun Yi planting the camera, the facts were clear. But Guan Shanyan suspected Sun Yi might be part of a larger organization, judging by the photos posted online.
“I suspect he wasn’t filming for himself. Maybe there’s a platform to distribute them and profit from it.”
Distributing illicit videos or photos carries heavier legal consequences. Sun Yi panicked: “Don’t slander me! I was just foolish for a moment! There’s no platform!”
Guan Shanyan glared at him. Given the previous incident, online chatter suggested a group or even live streams. Whether true or not, Guan Shanyan told the police: “If this filming is organized, the police will know. The camera might even connect to a live stream.”
Sun Yi’s face turned pale. If the officers hadn’t held him back, he might have attacked Guan Shanyan.
“Stay still!” The police handcuffed him, preparing to take him in. Lu Zhaoye laughed at him: “You? You want to fight my brother? Don’t overestimate yourself.”
Guan Shanyan: “…”
Could the wild boar incident finally be closed?
Nan Xu sat in front of the mirror, keeping an eye on the situation. She had been filming short dramas for the past two years. After some success with The Female Lead Tears Up the Script, her relatives were eager to insert people around her.
Nan Xu found it amusing. She was still a short-drama actress, barely making money, yet her relatives were scrambling for a piece of her earnings.
Sun Yi had been forced upon her. She didn’t even want a male assistant, but they argued he could help with heavy tasks. Instead, he did little physical work and planted a hidden camera in the dressing room.
Truly a “wonderful” cousin.
Today he was caught before succeeding, but what about before? Did he have any private photos or videos of her?
“Don’t worry too much. From the video, it looks like Sun Yi’s first time doing this.” Shen Youwei noticed Nan Xu’s anxiety and comforted her while doing her hair. “Luckily, the police caught him. They’ll investigate this thoroughly.”
“I hope so.”
“Tonight’s event is important to Gao Jie, so it must be important for you too. Let’s focus on preparing for it.”
“Mm.” Nan Xu patted her face, forcing herself to relax. Tonight’s short-drama platform event was her first big opportunity. She had to seize it.
After finishing makeup and changing into her gown, Nan Xu looked at herself in the mirror and felt better: “This look is gorgeous. I feel more sophisticated.”
Gao Yun hoped to transition her to long dramas, but she knew short-drama actors had a barrier. Only a few could successfully make the switch. But now, looking in the mirror, Nan Xu felt more confident. Standing beside long-drama actors, she wouldn’t be overshadowed.
Hearing their styling was done, Gao Yun entered and admired the look: “This looks amazing. The braid looks even better than the design sketch.”
As before, Gao Yun decided to have Nan Xu take departure photos in Shen Youwei’s studio. The photographer helped Nan Xu shoot a set, and then the group headed to the event.
The studio was left with just three people and a dog. Shen Youwei sat on the sofa and exhaled deeply.
After time-rewinding, her body would recover, but mentally, she felt she had worked nonstop for two days.
It had been exhausting.
“I bought some food. Everyone eat and take a short break.” Lu Zhaoye returned with takeout and placed it on the coffee table in front of the sofa.
He ordered the same food as last time. Shen Youwei suddenly realized that wasn’t entirely a bad thing, like this meal, she actually ate it twice, but in reality, only once. No need to worry about gaining weight.
Wait, if that’s the case, could this skill let her eat unlimited amounts of food??
“What are you thinking about?” Guan Shanyan opened a pizza box, cut a slice, and handed it to Shen Youwei. She took the slice and bit into it. “Nothing, just a little worried about Nan Xu.”
Lu Zhaoye said, “The police have already taken Sun Yi away. Nothing should happen now, right?”
“I just worry he might have secretly filmed Nan Xu before.” Shen Youwei had comforted Nan Xu earlier, but she still felt some unease herself.
Guan Shanyan said, “We’ve done what we could. Whatever happened before isn’t our problem anymore.”
“Brother Guan is right. Today we caught that trash Sun Yi, and we have Tianquan to thank!”
“Woof!” Tianquan had come over while they were eating, and now hearing its name, its tail wagged even more.
Lu Zhaoye couldn’t help but pat it: “See? Dogs really should have tails! Your friend made a wise choice not to dock Tianquan’s tail.”
“Woof woof!” Tianquan barked twice at Shen Youwei, then ran to its suitcase, squatting beside it without moving.
“Tianquan might really be magical.” Shen Youwei understood its meaning, opened the suitcase, and took out some dog treats to feed it. Tianquan went to its food bowl and devoured the treats in no time, then barked at Shen Youwei again: “Woof.”
Shen Youwei: “…”
She had fed Tianquan dog food earlier that afternoon. He Man had specifically instructed her not to give it too much.
“Give it some snacks too.” Guan Shanyan walked over and added a few treats to Tianquan’s bowl, patting its back. “Good job. Tianquan Team accomplished a great feat.”
Curious, Shen Youwei asked, “When exactly did Tianquan call you over today?”
Guan Shanyan hadn’t been called; he had noticed Sun Yi acting suspiciously and followed him. Tianquan only provided cover, but of course he wouldn’t admit that. “While you were doing Nan Xu’s makeup, you were focused and probably didn’t notice.”
“Oh, but how did Tianquan know Sun Yi was up to no good?” It was suspicious that the dog had even rushed into the dressing room today. Could Tianquan have memory too??
“Dogs are sometimes sharper than humans.” Guan Shanyan said, glancing at Shen Youwei. “Like the mutt at your grandmother’s house, it seems more understanding than you, doesn’t it?”
“How is it more understanding than me!?” Shen Youwei laughed at him: “Sure, dogs understand humans, and you, you are really a dog.”
Guan Shanyan: “…”
After feeding Tianquan, Shen Youwei sat back on the sofa and sipped the milk tea on the table.
Nan Xu’s departure photos were already online. As before, they received many compliments. Shen Youwei shared them on Weibo and watched as the photos trended.
Here, she started to get nervous. Last time, something had gone wrong at this exact point.
She stayed on the sofa, scrolling Weibo and monitoring the trending list. If it were a long drama actress walking the red carpet, the trending topics would already be filled with celebrities. But tonight’s event was for short dramas, which drew less attention. Only two actors were trending.
One was Nan Xu, and the other was the male lead from After the Female Lead Tears Up the Script, starring alongside her.
Originally, Nan Xu’s popularity was lower than the male lead’s, but today’s departure photos were excellent. Her current trending rank even surpassed his slightly.
Until the red carpet ended, nothing unusual happened online, and Shen Youwei finally relaxed completely.
Nan Xu’s red carpet look made the top ten trending, gaining more attention. Even Shen Youwei trended twice. Gao Yun was pleased and messaged her with thanks, saying the styling was very successful and the online feedback was great.
After replying to Gao Yun, Shen Youwei said to Guan Shanyan and Lu Zhaoye: “Thanks for today. Let’s head back and rest. Another day, I’ll treat you to a big meal!”
“Sure.” Lu Zhaoye perked up at the idea of eating with Shen Youwei. “How about a barbecue at Lize Park?”
Guan Shanyan: “…”
He really was obsessed with barbecue.
Shen Youwei readily agreed: “Sure, we can set up a tent and bring Tianquan too.”
“Alright, how about tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow doesn’t work.” Shen Youwei shook her head. She had plans. “I need to go to the temple tomorrow.”
“Huh?” Lu Zhaoye was confused. “To the temple for what?”
“Of course, to burn incense and ward off bad luck!” She should have listened to her mother and gone to the temple to pray!
“Oh, ” Lu Zhaoye didn’t quite understand, but supported her. “Then another day, when the weather is good.”
“Mm.” Shen Youwei packed her things, noticing Guan Shanyan still on the sofa. She called him: “We’re heading back. Are you okay?”
Guan Shanyan rubbed his brow, leaning back: “I’m fine. Just a slight fever.”
Shen Youwei: “…”
That was sudden!!!
“Huh? Brother Guan, you have a fever?” Lu Zhaoye went over and felt his forehead. “Looks a bit warm. Do we have a thermometer?”
“No, we haven’t prepared one yet.” Shen Youwei put down her bag and sat back. “Why do you suddenly have a fever again?”
“Not really sudden.”
“Not sudden? Were you feeling unwell this afternoon?”
“A little.” Guan Shanyan sipped some water and stood. “I’ll take some medicine and sleep, it’ll be fine.”
“Alright.” Shen Youwei nodded, recalling his fevers in the past. “You can’t drive like this. I’ll drive.”
