Chapter 41
Once they entered the main hall, Feng Lu personally and warmly ushered Ye Lixiao to his seat.
Smiling broadly, Feng Lu said, “Your Excellency the Demon King, three days have passed. After careful consideration, I’ve decided to accept your proposal. To show my sincerity, I’ve even invited the current Demon King to join us. This banquet is specially prepared to welcome the both of you. The contract is already being drafted, as for now, please, enjoy the evening.”
After speaking, Feng Lu returned to his throne. Before sitting down, however, his gaze, whether intentionally or not, lingered on Xing Luo, who was currently resting in Ye Lixiao’s arms.
The banquet began in full swing, music and dance filling the grand hall with an air of festivity.
Xing Luo lay sprawled across Ye Lixiao’s thigh. She rose up on her hind legs, little paws clutching the edge of the table. It seemed she had caught the scent of some particularly fragrant wine, it must taste delicious.
Ye Lixiao assumed she wanted meat and pushed a platter toward her, but she turned her head away, clearly uninterested.
“Meow.” I want to drink that instead.
Ye Lixiao frowned slightly. For some reason, he sensed that Xing Luo was unusually excited.
Still, whatever she wanted, he would always indulge her.
He picked her up and placed her on the table. Xing Luo immediately trotted toward the wine cup and began to lap at the liquid inside.
The moment the wine touched her tongue, her little head started spinning, her body filling with a strange, restless energy...
Sensing that something was wrong, Ye Lixiao quickly scooped her back into his arms.
And the next instant,
Bang!
Xing Luo transformed right there in his embrace.
Of course, Ye Lixiao would never allow anyone to see her bare form.
His large hands pulled her tightly against him, his tall figure and long black sleeves completely shielding her from sight.
Then, with a flick of his fingers, he cast a spell to clothe her, and infused a stream of his demonic energy into her body to clear her mind.
At that moment, Xing Luo’s small face was buried against his chest, unseen by anyone else.
Ye Lixiao’s voice was low and cold. “Luo’er, what happened?”
The wine itself wasn’t tainted, so why had she suddenly transformed?
“Catnip. There’s catnip in the wine,” Xing Luo murmured softly.
Catnip was something that could excite cats, naturally, a dragon like Ye Lixiao wouldn’t have sensed it.
He understood immediately, it was Feng Lu’s doing.
Ye Lixiao fed Xing Luo a pill to suppress the effects of the catnip.
Soon after, she transformed back into her feline form and obediently curled up in his arms again.
Ye Lixiao lifted his cold, deep gaze toward Feng Lu seated on the throne. Murderous intent gleamed in his eyes, it was clear that if Feng Lu dared to so much as think of touching Xing Luo, Ye Lixiao would make the entire Ghost Realm pay the price.
Feng Lu met his stare with a faint, teasing smile, feigning innocence.
He hadn’t expected Ye Lixiao to treasure Xing Luo so dearly, covering her so completely, not even allowing others a single glimpse.
How utterly amusing.
Feng Lu’s voice drifted lazily through the hall. “Your Excellency the Demon King, I can agree to your terms and refrain from touching the Demon Realm. But that offers no benefit to my Ghost Realm at all. Since I’m willing to compromise, shouldn’t you offer me something in return? Don’t worry, I won’t ask for much. Why don’t you give me the little pet in your arms? I find her quite to my liking.”
