Chapter 6

Arriving at the station, Lin Tian stood at the school gate, observing a few students coming and going. They carried books and looked very plain.
She thought for a moment and called out to one of the female students. The girl, also a Huating student, was about to enter for class when she suddenly heard a beautiful female comrade calling her name.
The girl noticed the unusual beauty of Lin Tian and slowed her steps.
Lin Tian pulled out a one-yuan coin from her bag and handed it to the girl with a bright smile. “Comrade, could you do me a favor? My husband is Chu Ci, an economics student. I need to see him. Could you call him over? I’ll wait right here.”
The girl was a little confused. She was a foreign-language major, but Chu Ci was well-known at the school. Hearing that this woman claimed to be his wife, and considering the recent stories of educated youths abandoning their wives, she couldn’t help but suspect the situation.
Feeling sympathy for Lin Tian, she refused the money. “Don’t worry, comrade. I’ll go call him for you.”
“Thank you so much. Don’t forget to tell him I’m pregnant,” Lin Tian added with a smile.
The girl’s eyes widened as she glanced at Lin Tian’s slightly rounded belly. She patted her chest and promised, “I’ll make sure to tell him.”
Lin Tian thanked her again, and the girl ran into the school.
The sunlight wasn’t too strong this season, so Lin Tian stood in the shade of a tree.
Finding herself a little bored, she watched the students passing by and then called out to a male student who happened to walk past.
The boy didn’t understand at first but stopped because of Lin Tian’s appearance. She politely asked, “Excuse me, do you know Chu Ci? Does he have a partner?”
He assumed she was another admirer of Chu Ci and felt a twinge of jealousy, but he wouldn’t slander anyone. “Sorry, I don’t know. But Chu Ci is famous at school, if he were close to anyone, someone would know. You should ask others.”
Lin Tian nodded in thanks, silently thinking: Looks like the male supporting character is quite disciplined. Even with amnesia, he hasn’t had any bad romantic entanglements.
The boy, being helpful, saw a female economics student he knew passing by and called her over.
The girl was Jiang Shiyi. Though slightly displeased, she asked, “What is it, Tianshu?”
The boy, Tianshu, explained: “This lady wants to inquire about Chu Ci. You’re in the same major; you might know more.”
Jiang Shiyi immediately noticed Lin Tian; someone so striking would always draw attention. But when she heard Lin Tian wanted information about Chu Ci, her expression hardened with subtle hostility.
Her tone was sharp. “Who are you, and why are you asking about Chu Ci?”
Lin Tian, perceptive as ever, guessed the girl’s thoughts and laughed inwardly. The male supporting character must be quite charming. She replied playfully: “I’m Chu Ci’s pregnant wife from the countryside. I came here specifically to see him today.”
Jiang Shiyi was shocked, and even Tianshu looked incredulous.
At the school, Chu Ci had many admirers. Everyone spoke of free love, but he rejected them all, never explaining why. Could this be the real reason?
Lin Tian rested one hand on her waist and the other on her belly, striking a fully pregnant pose.
Tianshu stayed silent, but Jiang Shiyi refused to believe it. “This isn’t an age where words are enough. What proof do you have that you’re Chu Ci’s wife?”
Her words were audacious. Tianshu tried to tug her sleeve, but she ignored him, stubbornly facing Lin Tian.
Calmly, Lin Tian pulled out the introduction letter and marriage certificate she had prepared and theatrically said, “Look closely, see if we’re legally married. Why would I lie? What would I gain?”
Jiang Shiyi took the certificate and realized it was genuine. Chu Ci really was married! Her heart sank, and she froze in place.
Lin Tian raised an eyebrow but said nothing further.
What she didn’t know was that Chu Ci had arrived during their conversation and had witnessed everything.
When informed by the female student that he had a wife who was pregnant, Chu Ci felt absurd. But seeing Lin Tian display the marriage certificate left no room for doubt. Before his amnesia, he had truly been married.
Now he looked carefully at the woman claiming to be his wife.
Today, Lin Tian wore a bean-green blouse and black pants. Simple, common, yet fresh and elegant on her.
Her skin was fair, her waist slender. If not for a careful look, no one would suspect she was pregnant.
Chu Ci thought about this and felt an unnatural stir in his heart. He really was going to be a father, truly unexpected.
After seeing his wife, he didn’t feel rejection. Instead, he was eager to know about his past.
“Hello, have you finished talking? If possible, I’d like to speak alone with my love,” Chu Ci finally approached, breaking the tense atmosphere. His tone when saying “my love” was natural and composed.
Hearing the crisp, gentle voice, Lin Tian looked up and saw a refined, noble gentleman, the “white moonlight” male supporting character in the book, also her temporary husband, and the father of her child.
Lin Tian judged his appearance favorably and smiled brightly. “Let’s find a place to talk.”
Chu Ci’s expression remained neutral. “Sure. There’s a park nearby. Let’s sit there.”
The not-so-familiar couple said goodbye to the others and followed Chu Ci to the park he suggested.
Lin Tian, being pregnant, walked slowly. Chu Ci didn’t rush her, keeping pace with her. Lin Tian noticed this, thinking silently that he was considerate.
Finally, they arrived and found a shaded spot to sit.
Chu Ci spoke first: “I have amnesia, so I really don’t know anything about our past. I’m sorry, I apologize to you.”
Lin Tian found it a little amusing, but she suppressed her laughter. Her eyes glinted mischievously as she asked, “So, you believe that I’m your wife now?”
“Isn’t there a marriage certificate? Besides, I don’t think you’d lie to me,” Chu Ci said, looking at her steadily, his long, thick eyelashes partially hiding the emotions in his eyes.
Lin Tian nodded, not denying it. She handed him again the introduction letter and marriage certificate she had shown others earlier, speaking seriously: “Take a good look. It has my address, which is also where you went during your time in the countryside. You can verify it with someone, then everyone can be at ease.”
Chu Ci glanced over them and returned them to her. Lin Tian was a bit puzzled, had he really read it carefully? She couldn’t help but ask, “Did you memorize it that quickly?”
After asking, she realized how silly that sounded. After all, Chu Ci in the book had an exceptional memory. Well, a mere mortal like her wouldn’t understand.
Chu Ci, of course, didn’t know what she was thinking. He nodded: “Don’t worry, I remember. I’ll look into it, but that doesn’t mean I don’t believe you. But aren’t you curious why I lost my memory?”
His tone was somewhat puzzled, yet when listened to closely, it had a gentle, guiding quality.
“So why did you lose your memory?” Lin Tian asked, her big eyes fixed on him, completely unbothered by asking such a personal question.
Chu Ci’s lips curved slightly as he carefully recounted what happened on the train to Beijing, the fight with the traffickers, the injury he sustained. He didn’t go into much detail; it was all briefly summarized.
Lin Tian had already seen the plot, so she had no need for him to go into every detail.
After hearing the story, Lin Tian casually praised him: “You’re amazing. Seeing danger and acting bravely is what every person should do. You did the right thing; I’m proud of you. And, of course, the child in my belly will be proud to have a father like you.”
Not really, your wife and child were only “lost” because of that.
Still, such a thing shouldn’t happen again. Lin Tian didn’t bother lecturing him; a casual comment sufficed.
Her tone sounded sincere, and her smile was radiant. Naturally, Chu Ci didn’t suspect the slightest exaggeration in her words.
Even if something seemed off, he quickly ignored it.
Being praised like that made Chu Ci’s ears slightly red. He cleared his throat awkwardly: “It’s nothing… It’s just that forgetting you all because of this was wrong. Luckily, you came to find me. Otherwise, it would probably have taken months before we could meet.”
“Exactly! By then, I would already be someone else’s wife, and the child in my belly would be calling another man ‘dad,’” Lin Tian said, innocently yet sarcastically.
Chu Ci’s expression darkened, and his tone turned serious: “What’s going on? Did something happen?”
Lin Tian didn’t hold back and vividly described how the original Lin Tian was forced by her family to remarry, and the village gossip, she exaggerated it all, portraying herself as pitiful.
“That’s why I came to find you. I really couldn’t stay in the village any longer,” Lin Tian sighed, looking sorrowful.
Chu Ci’s face grew darker with each word. When she finished, he apologized again: “It’s my responsibility. I won’t make excuses, I truly wronged you. But don’t worry; we are married. We won’t be apart again.”
Lin Tian paused in surprise but quickly responded: “Before you left, you said you’d come for me in a month. Even though I came to find you now, the result is the same.”
Her implication was clear, she wanted Chu Ci not to blame himself too harshly.
Yet after hearing her, Chu Ci felt even more guilty.
Having understood the general situation, Lin Tian asked the question she cared most about: “How do you plan to arrange things for me?”
